My New Favorite

I love cookbooks.  I have lots of them, but I think I may have just bought my favorite one.  It's the new Power Foods cookbook from the editors of Whole Living Magazine.  It's a must have for every kitchen.

Here's why I love it:

- The first 50 pages describe the 38 power foods - health benefits, how to buy, how to store, preparation tips and other tidbits.

- Every recipe includes a beautiful picture.  I don't know about you but pictures are a must for me.  Trust me, you will want to cook everything you see.

- The recipes are easy and don't include 15 + ingredients.  They are recipes you would actually want to cook... and eat.

- There's something for everyone.  From miso salmon with cilantro sauce and hearty spinach and chickpea soup to cherry-berry tea smoothies and vanilla-bean baked apples, the selections are to die live for.

I think eating well should taste fantastic and make you feel fabulous.  Whether you're trying to incorporate more whole foods into your diet or just need some new inspiration, this book is sure to deliver (By the way, I'm not being paid for this glorious plug, I just love sharing good stuff).

So... I was thinking, since I'm going to be cooking up some of this goodness anyway, why not share it with you all.  In an effort to keep me on track let's pick a day of the week to do our little Power Food recipe of the week.  Perfect!  I pick Thursday.  I've come to dread Thursdays because that's the day I have to give myself an Enbrel shot.  I need something happy to counter my dread.  Yes, a yummy new recipe/blog post is just the ticket.  Fun!

Happy Power Cooking!
Kim

  1. Awesome. I think we will have to look into this book. I was telling my wife that we need to have some recipes nailed down so we can shop for groceries accordingly and not throw out rotten food. I also love pictures, in fact I think I would do well with a cookbook of just pictures and no words, like the IKEA assembly guides, but with more detail! haha.

  2. Yes! You have to get it. Seriously awesome. See you have to build up that garden you were talking about. 1) You'll have all the veggies you could ever want and 2) You could compost whatever you don't eat so you don't feel as bad for throwing it out.

Yes to picture assembly guides. Silly words just confuse the situation. :)

  3. This looks great Kim. Tell me what you are cooking this Thursday. Can you post the recipe? I have no doubt this book is a good one, perhaps for my birthday I'll get it. I don't want you to dread Thursdays! When you feel sad about taking that shot, just put a different perspective to it, thank God you have a shot to take. That really does affect your mind and mood. I'm praying for you!

  5. Jess: Haven't decided what I'm going to make yet but I'll let you know. And yes, I am thankful I have a shot to take. I'm just not convinced that the benefits outweigh the crazy risks so it's still a mental battle. But yes, thankful it makes me feel better for now. Thanks for your encouragement :)

Diane: The red visor! You're so funny. A part of me is always with you. Thank you for your sweet words. I really appreciate it.
